I'm rather critical to equating the older løgmenn (up to 1816) with prime ministers. There is some validity of the translation for the modern løgmenn, since the Faroe Islands constitute an autonomous region within the Danish realm from 1946 on, and the løgmaður indeed is the head of its government. However, the older office had no similarity with "prime ministers"; even in the oldest time, when he was elected by the men at the general assembly, there were never any kinds of ministers, and there was no "government" which he could lead. (Before the subjugation of the islands under the kings of Norway, you might possibly compare the løgmaður and other "lawspeakers" with presidents, but never with a prime minister. Actually, the power was essentially held directly by the assebly of free men, and only in a minor manner delegated.)

The Faroese have chosen to resurrect the old term, in order to stress an historic continuity. This may be.a valid reason to treat both the older and the modern løgmenn in the same article; but I think that the article then ought to be named differently.named. This is all wrong

[edit]

The prime minister of Faroe islands is Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the same as in Denmark. Faroe islands also vote the Danish election. With other words a "lagmand" is not the same as a "statsminister/primeminister". --Tesko111111 (talk) 01:03, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes that is correct. The official word is Premier as seen here http://stm.dk/_a_2956.html --Kisualk (talk) 12:26, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Løgmaðurs of today and the historic ones

Sources?

[edit]

I think if an article has not had any sources since 2016, but has a lot of content this is a massive problem. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:EmilePersaud 20:53, 25 April 2022 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by EmilePersaud (talkcontribs) [reply]
